Wonderful 18th century former guard house, this traditional cottage is located in an area full of smuggling history and boasts far reaching sea and countryside views.
This charming cottage is in the region of 300 years old and was used in the past to capture smugglers off the Dorset coast. In more recent times it was the HMRC Officer’s accommodation. Inside the cottage has been lovingly and tastefully renovated to include neutral tones, painted antique furniture and carefully coordinated soft furnishings, while outside an enclosed suntrap terrace has a chiminea for those long summer evenings. Located in the beautiful small village of Seatown, this property boasts a traditional exterior which sits beautifully in the local area. The village is small and has a beach, pub, shop and some very good walks. The highly acclaimed local pub, The Anchor Inn, is just a stone’s throw away and can provide pre-ordered meals to be delivered to the cottage (further details in the 'need to know'). A popular route takes in Golden Cap and Thorncombe Beacon, both of which have strong links to the prevention of smuggling in the area.
The cottage is stone-built, providing warmth on cold days and a cool ambience on warmer days. Enter the property through the porch into the well-equipped kitchen and small utility room. A panelled sitting/dining room with comfortable furnishings and a log burner is the perfect place to curl up of an evening, where you can see glimpses of the nearby coast from the windows. There is a rear hall leading to a downstairs WC and shower room. The staircase is low, steep and winding and leads to three well-appointed bedrooms; two doubles have beautiful feature window seats allowing views of the sea and they also boast elegant Victorian fireplaces. The smaller twin room has stunning views of Golden Cap and there is an additional bathroom on this floor.
The enclosed front terrace houses many plants and a feature chimenea. The rear enclosed terrace is the perfect sun trap and has paved areas. There is a laundry room outside the property which houses the washing machine, dryer and freezer.
