This quaint 18th-century cottage in the popular village of Charmouth is the ideal coastal retreat for families and friends looking to explore the stunning county of Dorset and its World Heritage Coast.

As you approach this property, which can be found halfway up a steep lane that leads to a National Trust nature reserve, with excellent views across Lyme Bay, you will notice its quaint exterior nestled comfortably between the other properties. With its 18th-century charm, convenient village location and less than a mile from the beach, it is a great place for a family holiday. As you enter the cottage, you’ll find yourself in the cosy lounge with original features such as exposed beams and Victorian fireplace. The open fire is perfect for snuggling up in front of on a chilly evening with a mug of hot chocolate and a good book. Going through into the kitchen/diner, you will find it is light and airy with all the mod cons you’ll need to conjure up a tasty breakfast or scrumptious dinner. Upstairs, there are two bedrooms, both with pine floors and furniture. One has a king-size bed and glimpses towards the sea, the other has twin beds. Both bedrooms have quirky shelves and cupboards built-in to make use of the unusual lines of the old building. The shower room, also on the first floor, is well-lit and has a shower and WC.

Outside, there is a south-facing courtyard to the front with furniture allowing you to enjoy a cup of coffee or glass of wine in the Dorset sunshine. There is parking available on the lane.

The accommodation was OK due to one of our party having walking issues found the location a challenge but overall the cottage is value for money

This cottage had a lovely, relaxed feel and we felt instantly welcome and at home here. The little touches left in the kitchen were so thoughtful. The beds are vert comfortable and the cottage is in a lovely quiet location. It is situated on a very steep hill making the walk back from the beach a bit of a workout (lots of hills to walk up) but we lRead moreoved Charmouth and will definitely be back again Hide

A last minute 3 night stay which couldn't have been better! Wonderful cottage, excellent location, very comfortable beds, loved the stable door, a lovely approach to not wasting food/dry goods, everything we needed. We'd read the comments about the hill before we went so were prepared and took it on as a healthy challenge! Thank you.

Fantastic, cosy cottage even with Spring gales blowing in. One of the best equipped cottages we have ever stayed in, but my teenager would have preferred it to be at the bottom of the hill!

Lovely well equipped cosy cottage. It is well situated to explore the Jurassic coast and if the walking is too hard (cottage is 100 metres up a very steep hill!) then there is a bus stop 2 minutes away from the cottage that goes directly into Lyme Regis or in Bridport direction. The view is beautiful and the walk to the shop and coffee house short but the hill a bit of challenge! We thought at the time of booking that Charmouth would have more in the way of retail and eating. So we would recommend the cottage with that proviso.

This is a lovely cosy cottage with a comfortable sitting room, a very well equipped kitchen, lovely bedrooms and a really good shower. We went in hot weather and the house stayed cool, but it looks like it would be really cosy in the winter especially with a fire going! It is easily walkable to the beach. Do prepare yourself for the steepness of thRead moree road though! However it is straight and we had no access issues and could park directly outside the house. We would definitely come here again. Lovely comfortable little cottage well furnished and very thoughtfully prepared (e.g. a bottle of milk and wine in the fridge, both very welcome after a long journey. Lovely views out the upstairs. The walk up Old Lyme Hill to the cottage will keep you fit!
