This historic market town is on the banks of the River Frome. For a long time, Dorchester was home to the novelist and poet Thomas Hardy who loved Dorchester so much, he used it as a fictional setting for his novel called The Mayor of Casterbridge. It’s busy and full town with shops, pubs, restaurants and all manner of attractions. There are lovely historic landmarks within driving distance and many museums to investigate.
